The court of additional session judge Rashmi Sharma, on Friday, sentenced five convicts in Issewal gangrape case to life imprisonment till natural death while the sixth convict who is a juvenile was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the case.
As the hearing on quantum of sentence was held today, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the five major convicts and Rs.50,000 on the juvenile.
The five convicts who are awarded with life imprisonment were identified as Ajay of Tibba, Saif Ali of Tibba, Sadiq Ali of village Rehpa of Nawashehr, Jagroop Singh of Jaspal Banga and Surmu of Village Khanpur. The sixth convict is Liyakat Ali of Kathua of Jammu.
The accused had gang raped a 21 year old woman on Feburary 9, 2019, near Issewal village on the banks of Sidwan canal, about 15 km from Ludhiana when woman was travelling with one of her friends.
The victim girl was travelling in car from Ludhiana towards Issewal and three youngsters riding on one motor cycle followed them and stopped their car forcibly by breaking glass of car with brick and took the victim in a vacant plot and called their accomplices and the six convict gang raped the victim. After gang rape, they demanded Rs. 1 lakh extortion money from friend of her friend via mobile phone.
Then a case under sections 376-D, 342, 384, 364A, 354B, 379B, 397 IPC & 66E IT Act was registered at Dakha police station.
The police had arrested one of the accused Sadiq Ali, 24 on February 12, 2019 and then on February 14, the police had arrested three more accused in the case. The total investigation was completed in 40 days and challan was presented before the court.
On February 28, 2022 the court held six accused guilty.

(3) Surmu s/o Roshandin, Resi of Khanpur, Ludhiana.
(4) Said Ali s/o Issa Ali, Resi of Tibba Road, Ludhiana.
(5) Ajay alias Brij Nandan s/o Rama Chand, Resi of Khanpur Ludhiana.
While one accused Resi of Kathua, J&K has been sentenced
with 20 years of life imprisonment and 50,000/- Rs fine (compensation to victim).
