New Delhi, Dec 10 – With 31,521 new coronavirus cases and 412 deaths in the past 24 hours, India’s overall tally stood at 97,67,371 on Thursday, while the death toll reached 1,41,772, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
On Tuesday, the country had recorded 26,567 cases, the lowest spike witnessed in recent months.
Till now 92,53,306 have recovered, while there are 3,72,293 active cases.
The recovery rate stands at 94.74 per cent, and the fatality rate is 1.45 per cent. On Wednesday 9,22,959 tests were conducted, taking the tally of total tests conducted to 15,07,59,726.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with 18,64,348 cases till date.
Over 72 per cent of the daily new cases were reported by 10 states and UT — Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Gujarat.
The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 68.8 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.56 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Thursday, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 6.88,22,212 and 15,67,706, respectively.
The US is the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 1,53,79,574 and 2,89,283, respectively, according to the CSSE.
