Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday warned that a return of the traditional opposition parties to power would put Punjab’s welfare schemes, public institutions and water rights at risk, saying their priorities have already been exposed before the people. During a massive ‘Lok Milni’ programme in Sansra village of Ajnala Halqa, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the opposition would stop free electricity, free bus travel for women and ₹1,000 Samman Rashi, while Mohalla Clinics and government schools would be weakened to promote private institutions.
The Chief Minister pointed out the BJP would give Punjab’s share of water to Haryana and Rajasthan and also seek to separate Chandigarh and Panjab University from Punjab, while the Akali Dal had been reduced to bringing daily-wage workers to its rallies. Contrasting this with his government’s record, he highlighted zero electricity bills for 90% of households, the purchase of the Goindwal Sahib private thermal power plant, increase in canal water utilisation from 22% to 88%, 14,000 kilometres of underground pipelines and major improvements in government schools, saying the government’s sole focus was to provide facilities to every family and build a prosperous ‘Rangla Punjab’.
Taking to X, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated: “Today, during the ‘Lok Milni’ at village Sansra in the Ajnala Assembly constituency, I interacted with the hardworking people of Majha and exchanged views with them. I sincerely thank everyone for turning up in such large numbers and showering us with immense love and respect. The three panchayats of the village were handed cheques worth ₹60 lakh, with ₹20 lakh each for development works. Our government has brought electricity bills down to zero for 90% of households, purchased the private thermal power plant at Goindwal Sahib, and increased access to canal water from 22% to 88%.”
“Across Punjab, 14,000 kilometres of underground pipelines have been laid. By improving government schools, Punjab has been brought to the number one position in education across the country. The condition of the traditional parties that looted the people is now before everyone. The sole objective of our government is to provide facilities to the people of Punjab and once again create a prosperous ‘Rangla Punjab’. Inquilab Zindabad,” the post concluded.
Addressing a massive gathering during the Lok Milni, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “On September 15, six states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi, signed an agreement to take forward the Kishau Multipurpose Project, but Punjab was not included. Agreements are being made between Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and other states, but Punjab is not even invited. Why is Punjab being treated as an outsider when the question concerns the water resources of this region?”
The Chief Minister said, “The BJP wants to decide the distribution of water while keeping Punjab out of the discussion. The people of Punjab have taken note of this step-motherly treatment. Punjab has contributed enormously to the nation. Our farmers have fed the country, our soldiers have defended the borders and our people have contributed to the growth of India. Punjab cannot be expected to remain silent when decisions affecting its interests are taken without it.”
He said, “Our government will fight every issue concerning Punjab with determination and will not compromise on the rights and interests of the state. Every step taken by us towards Punjab gives us greater confidence to serve the people better.”
Expressing gratitude to the people for turning up despite the heat, the Chief Minister said, “I respect the love and affection being shown by the people. People have come here in such large numbers despite the heat and are standing with us. I especially welcome the people of Majha, particularly the mothers and sisters who left their daily responsibilities to attend this programme. Majha has always played a decisive role in Punjab’s political and social life.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It is always a pleasure to come to Majha because the people of this region have the power to make or break governments. The impact of our government’s policies is now becoming visible across Punjab.”
Highlighting the government’s work, the Chief Minister stated, “Our government has provided 300 units of free electricity every month, bringing substantial relief to households across Punjab. We have also worked extensively in the water sector and substantially increased the utilisation of available water resources.”
He said, “When I took oath, only around 22% of canal water was being utilised for canal irrigation. In four years, our government has taken this utilisation to around 88 per cent. This is four times more than before.”
He said, “Our government has laid approximately 14,000 kilometres of water pipelines across Punjab. The scale of this work is comparable to the distance between Punjab and Vancouver in Canada. These are people-centric works. We are not working for a few powerful families. We are working for every village, every farmer and every household.”
Taking aim at the Badal family and the Akali Dal, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The people of Punjab have witnessed their political decline. Previous governments failed to work in the larger interests of Punjab, and political power was used for personal and family interests.”
He said, “They had their share in almost every business, but I have only one share in Punjab, a share in the joys and sorrows of my people.”
Referring to the turban adorned with flowers presented by supporters, the Chief Minister said, “The affection of the people is priceless. This love has no price and cannot be measured in any currency. It is priceless.”
Referring to incidents involving the beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Those who failed to answer the questions raised by the people are now seeking political alliances. The opposition parties are internally divided and are unable to present a coherent alternative before the people.”
Taking aim at the Congress, he said, “In Congress, everyone wants to become Chief Minister, but first they should count how many seats they have.”
He also said, “The political programme of the Akali Dal has effectively been reduced to a handful of people. The people of Punjab have seen where their politics has taken them.”
Highlighting the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The financial assistance being provided to women is being used for household expenses, school fees and other essential needs. Those receiving the assistance are using it for the needs of their families. Therefore, criticism of welfare spending cannot be justified.”
The Chief Minister said, “Previous governments never utilised public resources for such direct public welfare. Our government has also stopped the practice of registering false FIRs against people for speaking against those in power.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The opposition says that if it returns to power, it will close these schemes. The people already know what their priorities were. Our government is working for the people and the prosperity of Punjab, not against them.”
Highlighting education reforms, the Chief Minister said, “When I took oath in 2022, Punjab was ranked 27th in education. Today, the state has made substantial progress in school education.”
He said, “Our teacher-training programmes involving institutions and destinations such as Finland, Singapore and IIMs are aimed at exposing teachers to modern teaching practices and improving learning outcomes.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “We have established Schools of Eminence to provide students with better infrastructure, learning environments and opportunities. Our teachers are being trained in the best possible way so that our children receive quality education.”
He said, “Every child of Punjab should have access to opportunities that were earlier available only to privileged sections. Our government has continued implementing welfare programmes, providing free electricity, strengthening health infrastructure, improving schools and investing in water and rural development.”
Highlighting the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, the Chief Minister said, “Health protection has been extended to millions of families in Punjab. Around 54 lakh families have received health cards under the scheme. We are working to ensure that families are not forced into debt because of medical expenses.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “People should judge the government on the basis of the benefits they are receiving in their daily lives. Ultimately, the people will decide the political future of every party and every leader.”
The Chief Minister said, “Our government has completed its work with a focus on electricity, health, education, water, infrastructure and welfare. Our sole objective is to ensure that the benefits of governance reach ordinary people directly.”
Warning the people about the opposition’s stated approach to welfare schemes, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “If, by mistake, an opposition party comes to power, they will discontinue free electricity, free bus travel for women and the ₹1,000 monthly assistance.”
He said, “They will destroy Mohalla Clinics and government schools and promote private schools. The BJP also wants to separate Chandigarh and Panjab University from Punjab.”
Taking a dig at the Akali Dal, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Shiromani Akali Dal brings daily-wage labourers to its rallies, but this time it will not even be able to open its account.”
The Chief Minister said, “Punjab stands with honest politics. The people of Punjab have understood the difference between politics for personal and family interests and politics that works for every village, every farmer and every household.”
