Assures, demands to be taken up with the government and fulfilled
Pathankot, February 10:
Punjab and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission Chairperson Hon’ble Justice Sant Prakash, on Monday, conducted inspection of the Pathankot Sub-Jail. He was accompanied by Registrar Mr. K.K. Bansal, Joint Registrar Mr. D.D. Sharma, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Mr. Rupinder Singh, Jail Superintendent Mr. Himanshu Goyal and Medical Officers Dr. Raj Kumar and Dr. Amandeep Singh.
The Chairperson thoroughly reviewed the welfare schemes and facilities being provided to the inmates at the sub-jail, which currently houses 38 convicts and 29 undertrials.
During the inspection, Justice Sant Prakash noted the absence of an adequate medical dispensary and the need for quality laboratory facilities. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Aditya Uppal assured that necessary action would be taken to establish temporary medical facilities and address laboratory requirements in the sub-jail.
The Chairperson specifically commended the jail administration for maintaining a drug-free environment and praised the ongoing rehabilitation program of candle-making.
Later, the Chairperson presided over the meeting with civil and police administration, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Aditya Uppal, SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon, Civil Surgeon Dr. Aditi Salaria and other officials. The meeting focused on managing schemes and facilities for inmates’ welfare. Justice Sant Prakash directed to ensure nutritious food and health awareness for prisoners. On this occasion, a special medical camp was also organized by the Health Department within the jail premises.

In a separate ceremony, Justice Sant Prakash laid the foundation stone of Jagriti Community Center No. 2 at Tikka Dher-Sukerni in Village Ghat Bagroli. This project will be completed at a cost over Rs.6 lakh. On this occasion, Major Dr. Sumit Mudh SDM Dhar Kala, Trustee of Jagriti Foundation Charitable Trust Mr. R.P.S. Walia, Mr. Sammi Chaudhary, Mr. Deepak Maini, Mr. Yaspal Sharma, Mr. Jagdish Saini, Mr. Raj Kumar Khajuria, Mr. Umesh Khajuria, Mr. Krish Sarpanch and others were present.
Located in Punjab’s most remote and underdeveloped region, villagers informed the Chairperson about significant challenges they face, including limited road access, inadequate electrical infrastructure, insufficient healthcare facilities and absence of educational institutions. He assured that necessary efforts would be made promptly to address these issues.
The Chairperson praised Jagriti Foundation’s commitment to adopting these villages and improving residents’ quality of life. He said that the Commission is dedicated to understanding and resolving ground realities in such remote areas.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Aditya Uppal also assured that the demands of the people would be conveyed to the government and addressed at the earliest.
