On the occasion of National Sports Day, during the opening ceremony of the season-2 of the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium, Bathinda, the legendary Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand was remembered, whose birthday is celebrated as Sports Day. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan paid tribute to Dhyan Chand’s picture by offering a garland.
On this occasion, Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Revenue Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, MLA Gurdit Singh Sekhon, Inderjit Kaur Mann, Rupinder Singh Happy and Davinder Singh Ladi Dhons and Dr. Nirmal Jaura released the book ‘Hockey Da Jadugar Major Dhyan Chand’. This children’s literature book has been written by Navdeep Singh Gill, Sports Minister’s Public Relations Officer and sports writer, which has been published by Lokgeet Prakashan.
Meet Hayer said that the state government is making efforts to create a sports culture and the biographies of great players are a source of inspiration for the new age players. He said that sports literature has a valuable contribution in the field of sports and literature.
