-Hospital Violence Won’t Be Tolerated, Offenders Will Go to Jail: Dr. Balbir Singh
Patiala, July 24:
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today conducted a surprise inspection of Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala to review healthcare services and directly interact with patients. During his visit, he engaged with patients in the emergency ward, OPD, and other hospital units, taking feedback on the quality of care and facilities being provided.
Expressing serious concern over a recent altercation in the hospital involving external individuals, Dr. Singh said such incidents would not be tolerated. “Anyone attempting to disturb the peace in a hospital will face strict legal action and be sent straight to jail,” he warned. He commended the swift response of hospital and police officials in arresting the culprits on the spot.
The Minister appealed to the public to maintain discipline within hospitals and use the facilities responsibly. He also highlighted recent improvements in Rajindra Hospital’s OPD services, including digital token systems, adequate seating, clean drinking water, and restroom facilities. “Patients no longer need to wait in long queues. Registration is now streamlined and more patient-friendly,” he noted.
Dr. Balbir Singh further assured that all required medicines are being provided free of cost to inpatients. In case anyone is asked to buy medicines from outside, the issue can be reported to the Medical Superintendent or directly to the Health Minister’s office.
He reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, to strengthening public healthcare. “Our goal is to deliver world-class health services through Aam Aadmi Clinics and government hospitals across the state,” he said.
Dr. R.P.S. Sibia, Dr. Vishal Chopra, and other senior medical officials accompanied the Minister during the visit.
