– Assures 24×7 Monitoring and Clean Water Supply
Rajpura, July 23:
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today visited village Chhangera in Rajpura, following the recent outbreak of diarrhoea cases. Accompanied by officials from the Health and Water Supply Departments, he reviewed the situation, assessed medical arrangements, and interacted with affected residents.
The minister informed that 24-hour surveillance has been activated in the village, with clean drinking water being supplied via tankers and an adequate stock of essential medicines made available. He informed that all drinking water pipelines have been inspected, and necessary repairs were carried out wherever faults were found. In several areas, it was observed that dirty water or waste was found near the pipelines, which could lead to disease outbreaks — measures have been taken to prevent such contamination.
Dr. Balbir Singh urged the public to maintain cleanliness around homes and public areas, especially during the monsoon season, to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases. He advised residents to consume only boiled or chlorinated water and emphasized the importance of basic hygiene as the first line of defense against infections.
He further announced that the village ponds would be cleaned and enclosed with boundary walls. Additionally, plans are underway to develop community parks to improve public health infrastructure.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagpalinder Singh reported that health teams have conducted door-to-door surveys in the village, and new diarrhoea cases have significantly decreased. So far, 21 cases have been recorded, and the situation is now under control. Continuous monitoring is being carried out by the health department.
SDM Rajpura Avikesh Gupta, District Epidemiologist Dr. Sumeet Singh, Dr. Divjot Singh, Dr. Paramdeep Kaur (CHC Kalomajra), and Executive Engineer J.S. Sidhu (Water Supply Department) were also present during the visit.
