CHANDIGARH,April 27, 2021: Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said that he disagree with the judgement delivered by Punjab and Haryana High Court in a petition related to police firing in Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura on Sikhs protesting sacrilege of holy Guru Granth Sahib.
Capt Amarinder Singh while replying to questions in an interview with News TV channel said that the judgement by High Court was not a judicial verdict but a ‘political judgement’. He said that High Court had mentioned certain names and issues which were not even part of the petition before it. He said that they will challenge some parts of the judgement in the Supreme Court.
Chief Minister said that Punjab cabinet has approved new SIT to probe the police firing incidents as directed by the High Court. High Court had rejected the findings of SIT of which former IGP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh was the member. High Court had censured Kunwar Vijay Partap and commented that there was no evidence in the probe report which was based on fantasies of Kunwar Vijay Partap. Immediately after High Court judgement Kunwar Vijay Partap had resigned from service.
Captain Amarinder Singh said that in all cases of sacrilege of Guru Grnath Sahib related to Bargari and other places, the accused have been arrested and challan presented in the courts. He said that High Court judgement is only related to police firing cases.
Capt Amarinder Singh also stated that state government would seek reply from other members of the SIT for not signing the judgement.
Chief Minister said that when new SIT has been formed there was no use of restarting dharna at Behbal Kalan being planned by certain Sikh organisations and political parties.
Capt Amarinder Singh said that he had rejected the resignations of PPCC president and Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa during cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
