New Delhi,Oct 01, 2020-Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who were stopped on their way to Hathras have begun a march to meet the family of the 19-year-old Dalit woman who died after being gang-raped and tortured by four upper-caste men in the Uttar Pradesh district. Gandhis were stopped by authorities on Yamuna Expressway, Congress said. The victim’s family also alleged that the UP Police had cremated her forcibly without their permission.
Ahead of Gandhis visit, Section 144 has been imposed in the district and the borders have been sealed. Meanwhile, the Uttar Police also lathi-charged few Samajwadi Party workers who were trying to reach the victim’s house. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Yogi Adityanath government to probe the incident will also talk to the family members today.(Agencies)
