Washington, Aug 2 -The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 17.5 million, while the deaths have increased to more than 683,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 17,791,377 and the fatalities rose to 683,988, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
The US accounted for the world’s highest number of infections and fatalities at 4,620,182 and 154,360, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Brazil came in the second place with 2,707,877 infections and 93,563 deaths.
In terms of cases, India ranks third (1,695,988), and is followed by Russia (843,890), South Africa (503,290), Mexico (434,193), Peru (407,492), Chile (357,658), Iran (306,752), Colombia (306,181), the UK (305,572), Spain (288,522), Pakistan (278,305), Saudi Arabia (277,478), Italy (247,832), Bangladesh (239,860), Turkey (231,869), France (225,197), Germany (211,005), Argentina (196,543), Iraq (126,704), Canada (118,523), Qatar (110,911) and Indonesia (109,936), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the Mexico (47,472), UK (46,278), India (36,511), Italy (35,146), France (30,268), Spain (28,445), Peru (19,021), Iran (16,982), Russia (14,034) and Colombia (10,330).(Agency)
