Chandigarh, December 18: The employees working under the Local Government Department have done their job diligently during the Corona pandemic at the frontline, which is commendable. These views were expressed by the Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra during a meeting with two unions, Punjab Safai Union and Municipal employees action Committee, of the Municipal Employees.
Presiding over the meeting, Brahm Mohindra said that the demand of the employees for regular job in the department would be considered in the meeting of the sub-committee and the decision would be taken soon to fill up the vacancies of the sweepers in the Municipalities and Corporations. Instructing the senior officers present in the meeting, he said that as per the requirement the department should fix the beats on the basis of population and send the recruitment proposal through DDR / Commissioner as soon as possible so that more recruitment of sweepers could be made.
To provide safety kits to the sweepers for their security, he said that a committee should be constituted after taking suggestions from the employees regarding the safety kits. It should be provided to the sweepers in stipulated time to ensure the safety of the employees working in high-risk areas.
Brahm Mohindra also asked the sweepers to provide the details of their allowances and directed the concerned authorities that put the file up to the Finance Department for increasing the allowances as per the present scenario. He also directed the higher authorities to keep the unions informed about the progress report from time to time.
Local Government Minister also assured that the Punjab government would soon cover the employees under insurance scheme so that financial assistance could be provided to the family members of the victim in case of any miss happening or accident. Apart from this the issues of promotion of employees, jobs on compassionate ground and festival/ wheat loan were also thoroughly discussed in the meeting. Mr. Brahm Mahindra assured the unions that decision will soon be made on all issues raised by the unions.
