Chandigarh, October 2:
Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sh. Lal Chand Kataruchak has congratulated the Indian Women’s Hockey Team for creating history by winning the Gold Medal at the Asian Games 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
This is the second time Indian Women’s team has bagged Gold Medal at the Asian Games. The first time was in, 1982 Asiad in New Delhi where women’s hockey category made it’s debut.
The Indian team defeated defending champions China 1-0 in a thrilling final. Lalremsiami scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute to secure the Gold for the country.
In his congratulatory message, Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said that the entire nation is proud of this historic achievement. He said this Gold Medal is a result of the team’s hard work, discipline, determination and team spirit.
The Minister said that Indian women’s hockey has made the country proud on the world stage and this victory will inspire lakhs of young girls across Punjab and the country to take up sports.
He especially lauded the performance of Lalremsiami and the entire team for keeping their nerves and delivering under pressure against a strong team like China.
Kataruchak said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to promoting sports and sportspersons and will continue to support athletes who bring glory to the nation.
He wished the team more success in future tournaments.
