Moga, December 12, 2020: As part of the Punjab Government’s drive to curb the use and sale of illicit liquor, the Excise and Taxation Department and the police have launched a massive crackdown in Moga district.
The department has also issued helpline number 98759-61126 to curb this illegal trade.
Navdeep Singh Hadiwal, Excise Officer, Moga said that it was an offence to buy, sell, possess and consume liquor smuggled from any unauthorized place and from outside the state.
Under the Excise Act, if such liquor is seized from a person, he can be imprisoned with a fine of Rs 10 lakhs. The general public is therefore urged to carry out this campaign of the government while fulfilling the duty of being a good citizen and if any person is accustomed to sell or possess such liquor, he should inform the Excise Department and District Police.
He said that Excise and Taxation Department Punjab has issued helpline/complaint number 98759-61126 for registering information/complaint regarding excise offences like smuggling of liquor, Lahan, illegal units for making liquor etc.
He said that any person can use this number for voice call and SMS. You can register your complaint via SMS or WhatsApp. He said that these complaints would be dealt with heavy hands immediately and the name of the informant would be kept confidential.
Regarding the liquor made from Lahan, he said that such liquor has no degree and as it is poisonous, it affects the light of the eyes and its use can be fatal. He said that the illicit liquor dealers in the district were being cracked down on so that the lives of the common man could not be jeopardized and the government revenue could be secured.
