WSS Minister Jimpa congratulates the district administration and people for making Punjab proud
Chandigarh, October 19:
Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, in a remarkable achievement, Gram Panchayats of all 122 Villages of Barnala District have declared themselves as “Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF Plus)” in the aspiring category under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and becomes first district of the State to achieve the milestone. This distinction signifies the significant progress made by the district in enhancing sanitation and solid & liquid waste management, ultimately improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
On occasion of achieving this milestone, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shankar Jimpa has congratulated all the officials, residents and public representatives of the district who have worked to achieve this goal.
He said that the government led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann is working assiduously to provide basic facilities to the people of Punjab from day one. It is also the aim of the government that the people should not face any kind of hardship for the facilities and get all the facilities at their doorstep without any hassle.
It is pertinent to mention that the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), launched by the Government of India, aims to ensure a clean and open defecation-free India by promoting cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in rural areas. The “ODF Plus” status goes beyond merely achieving open defecation-free status, focusing on the sustainability of sanitation, management of solid and liquid waste and over all cleanliness of the villages.
District Barnala’s journey to ODF Plus status has been a result of dedicated efforts by the District Administration, Department of Water Supply & Sanitation, Department of Rural Development & Panchayats and the active participation of its residents.
Jimpa further said that the ODF Plus status reflects the commitment of District Barnala to continue working towards maintaining the highest standards of sanitation and hygiene in the future. This achievement will undoubtedly lead to a better quality of life for its residents, contributing to the overall development of the district.
