CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, April 30:
In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border drug and arms smuggling module with the arrest of two accused persons and recovered 4.108 kg heroin and four sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.
Those arrested have been identified as Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh (21), a resident of village Lahuka in Tarn Taran and Tarsem Singh alias Kairon alias Pehlwan (31), a resident of Mohalla Jaswant Singh Nagar in Tarn Taran. The recovered pistols include two 9MM Glock (Made in Austria) and two .30 Bore (Made in China) along with five live cartridges.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. The consignments of illegal arms and drugs were delivered through drones, which were later collected by the accused and further supplied, he said.
The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages of this network to identify other associates involved.
Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during the operation, accused Arshdeep alias Arsh was apprehended with 2.6 kg heroin. On further follow-up and interrogation of the arrested accused, co-accused Tarsem alias Kairon was also arrested, and 1.5 kg heroin and four pistols were recovered from his possession, he said.
The CP said that probe has revealed that accused Tarsem alias Kairon, who is notorious criminal with 16 criminal cases under NDPS Act, Arms Act, Prison Act and attempt to murder registered against him, is an associate of gangster Gurpreet Singh alias Krishan Jandiala, who is presently residing abroad. It has also been revealed that gangster Gurpreet @ Krishan Jandiala lured Tarsem to work for him with the promise of arranging a fake passport and facilitating his travel abroad, he added.
In this regard, a case FIR no. 68 dated 26-04-2026 under sections 21-b, 21-c and 29 of the NDPS Act and section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar.
