Fatehgarh Sahib, October 28, 2020: COVID-19 likely to cast its shadow over the ensuing three day annual Shahidi Jor Mela to be commemorated from 25th December to 27th December in the memory of Younger Sahibjadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were bricked alive here.
The Deputy Commissioner while talking to the media after presiding over the meeting of the district officials called to make arrangements for the annual Saheedi Jor Mela here today appealed to the devotees to pay homage to Sahibjadas at nearby Gurudwaras and abstain from thronging historical gurudwara at Fatehgarh Sahib to avoid rush and if at all they want to pay obeisance at Fatehgarh Sahib, they should come before or after Jor Mela as COVID threat still looms large. DC also urged the SGPC to issue such an appeal to Devotees.
She said that though the COVID-19 virus has been controlled to some extent, but its revival can’t be ruled out and it can strike again like in the foreign countries, so to prevent the deadly pandemic all the guide lines must be followed and large gatherings must be avoided, otherwise it will be a tantamount to invite the pandemic.
DC directed the Police officials to make arrangements for the convenience, safety of the devotees and for the smooth flow of traffic. She directed the health department to keep the hospitals open for 24 hours and to ensure the required ambulances and to set up temporary dispensaries, the public health department to ensure provision of temporary toilets and safe drinking water, the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council to ensure cleanliness and to carry out fogging regularly. She directed the officials of PWD to ensure that all the roads connecting Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Jyoti Saroop Sahib are repaired in time.
