Ludhiana, January 13:
As a goodwill gesture and under the “Winter Warmth” scheme started by Director General of Police Punjab Mr Dinkar Gupta, more than 11,000 blankets and Lohri Hampers containing eatables and other goodies were distributed amongst the downtrodden sections of the society in Ludhiana city today. Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Agrawal distributed blankets and Lohri Hampers to the residents of EWS Colony on Chandigarh Road, here today.
This function was organised by the team of ADCP-4 Miss Rupinder Kaur Sra.
While speaking to the media persons on the occasion, Mr Rakesh Agrawal informed that with an aim to spread warmth and happiness amongst the weaker sections of society, DGP Punjab Mr Dinkar Gupta has launched “Winter Warmth” scheme, under which more than 11,000 blankets, woollen caps and Lohri Hampers containing Bun packets, biscuits, cup cakes, Gachak, Rewari, Moongfali, sweets etc were distributed amongst the residents.
He said that such functions were organised at 25 different locations in the city, where ADCP and ACP level officers distributed these items to the needy. He said that the police personnel are from within our own society and this is the best way to connect with the downtrodden strata of our society as it boosts their morale in a much positive way.
ADCP 4 Miss Rupinder Kaur Sra informed that as a humanitarian gesture, more than 600 blankets, woollen caps and Lohri hampers were distributed to the residents of EWS Colony, Chandigarh Road, here.
On this occasion, the festival of Lohri was also celebrated by the Commissioner of Police by lighting the holy fire of Lohri.
Joint Commissioner of Police Mr J Elanchezhian informed that the Ludhiana police wishes that the holy fire of Lohri burn away all the problems of people, filling their life with infinite happiness. He said that more such functions would also be organised in the city in coming days.
