Interacting with the media persons here at Punjab Bhawan today, the Chief Minister said that Jashan, a nephew of the former Chief Minister had sought a bribe worth Rs 2 crore from Jasinder for giving him a job against an exam of PPSC cleared by him. He said that there was open sale of jobs during the tenure of Channi due to which the bright career of an outstanding player was ruined. Bhagwant Mann said that Jasinder and his father had met the former Chief Minister during a function in presence of former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
The Chief Minister said Hussan Lal the then Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister had apprised Channi about the entire case. He said that Channi had agreed to bring the case to Cabinet for approval but had asked Jasinder to meet Jashan probably for the understanding. Bhagwant Mann said that when Jasinder and his father met the nephew of Channi he agreed to fulfill the word of the former Chief Minister but demanded Rs 2 crore from him for the job.
However, the Chief Minister said that when they expressed their inability to give the money the job was never given. He said that after this even the former Chief Minister had publicly reprimanded Jasinder and his father during a function. Bhagwant Mann said that due to this attitude of the former Chief Minister Jasinder was not able to get the job and was highly demoralized.
The Chief Minister announced that the state government will give job to Jasinder as per the stipulated norms of the state government for which the case is being studied. He also said that legal action will be taken against those who have ruined the youth of the state by their misdeeds. Quipping against theatricals of the former Chief Minister to feign ignorance about the case at the holy land of Sri Chamkaur Sahib, the Chief Minister asked him to peep into his conscience before making any statement as this dirty play was not possible without his knowledge. He said that without any doubt the entire Punjab and especially sports have been ashamed of the misdeeds of the family of the former Chief Minister. He said that Jasinder was considered in the general category whereas he had applied under sports quota under which he was eligible for job as he had topped that category. Bhagwant Mann said that disheartened Jasinder had then called on the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who’s OSD MP Singh had narrated the entire case to him.
The Chief Minister said that Captain Amarinder Singh had asked the officers to examine the case and put it before the Cabinet for approval. However, he said that before that Captain was toppled and Channi was made the Chief Minister of the state. Bhagwant Mann said that after Channi assumed the charge of office the unholy nexus prevailed and the game of cash for jobs started in Punjab.
The Chief Minister pledged that he will not allow any sort of mafia to flex its muscle during his tenure. He said that severest of severe action will be taken against anyone who plunders the wealth of the people and the state.
