Faridkot, August 11, 2020: To curb the spread of Corona epidemic as a part of Mission Fateh, the Punjab Government today launched Plasma Bank at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot after Patiala and Amritsar. The Covid-19 affected patients are treated with plasma therapy.
Today, the Plasma Bank was dedicated to the public at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Vimal Kumar Setia, and the Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Raj Bahadur by Cabinet Minister, OP Soni through a video conference.
Cabinet Minister O.P. Soni appealed to patients who have recovered from the Covid-19 war to come forward and donate their plasma to help to treat other Corona +ve patients. He said, now Faridkot, after Patiala and Amritsar has become the third district for introducing plasma therapy in the medical college.
He said that this was a historic step taken by the Punjab government towards the successful treatment of critically ill corona patients, which could save the lives of critically ill corona patients by treating them in a state of the art manner.
Thanking the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Cabinet Minister OP Soni, DC Vimal Kumar Setia said, the third Plasma Bank of Punjab established at Faridkot for prevention and treatment of Covid epidemic was a great achievement. Describing the establishment of Plasma Bank as a milestone in this direction, the DC said that this initiative of the Punjab Government to control the Covid epidemic under Mission Fateh, would prove to be a milestone.
Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Vice Chancellor Dr. Raj Bahadur said that the trial of Plasma Therapy had already been successfully done at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and now a large number of Corona affected patients in the Malwa region would get a great deal of treatment after the establishment of Plasma Bank.
He said that any patient recovering from corona without other diseases or pregnant women can donate their plasma after 28 days and the person donating plasma should be between 18 to 65 years of age and weigh 55 kg adding that the process of plasma donation was very simple and safe.
He further said that the lab set up by the Punjab government for corona testing at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College was also working very successfully and now with the establishment of Plasma Bank, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital has become the second hospital in the state where there will be treatment with this technology.
Immediately after the inauguration, Dr. Avon and Drs. Akramvir Singh Brar donated his plasma and became the first donor to donate plasma to this bank.
On this occasion, Registrar Dr. G.C. Wahir, Controller of Examinations, Dr. S.P. Singh, Dr. Rajiv Joshi Medical Superintendent, Nitu Kukkar in charge Plasma Bank were also present
