Chandigarh, July 26: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is killing democracy by destabilizing the state governments of opposition parties in a bid to seize power. This was stated by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar today.
He said that after eroding democracy in Goa and Madhya Pradesh, BJP was now following the same dirty tricks in Rajasthan. Describing it a threat to the federal structure of the country, he warned that Congress party would not remain silent against the BJP’s bullying. Our great freedom fighters had gifted us with democracy after a long struggle; it was unfortunate for the BJP playing with it.
Mr. Jakhar said that the BJP did not care about the Constitution nor did it care about the high democratic values of the country. BJP was turning blind in the lure of power and wants to seize it by any means.
Claiming that the Gehlot govt in Rajasthan was doing a great job in the time of Covid crisis but central govt, he said that BJP leaders were indulging in the buying and selling of MLAs. BJP leaders’ policy of intimidation and abusing the constitutional position of the Governor was a way to get votes to overthrow the government elected by people he added.
PPCC chief said that the manner in which the Governor was not convening the assembly session at the request of the Chief Minister in violation of the constitutional norms made it clear that he was ignoring democracy with the concurrence of the Central Government.
Jakhar said that Congress party was launching an awareness campaign at the national level against the erosion of democracy by the BJP. He gave a call to all the Congress functionaries to share their videos against the anti-democratic thinking of the BJP on social media so that the people could be made aware of the truth and mobilized against the dictatorial mind-set of the saffron party (BJP).
