Historical City Batala & newly promoted from municipal council to corporation gets it’s very first Mayor as Mr. Sukhdeep singh teja,a senior congress leader, whereas mr.sunil sareen & mrs. Chanderkanta were elected as senior deputy mayor & deputy mayor respectively. Swearing in ceremony of the newly elected councillors was conducted by commissioner of the jalandhar division mrs.gurmeet kaur ias after the the first meeting of newly elected house at 11 am.
After the swearing in ceremony the election process of the mayor started.
First of all councillor from ward no.32 anil kumar proposed the name of councillor from ward no.30 mr.sukhdeep singh teja for the post of mayor which was seconded by ward 33 councillor monika sekhri.this proposal was passed unanimously by the house.
After that sunil kumar sareen & mrs.chanderkanta were also elected as senior deputy mayor & deputy mayor respectively. Swearing in ceremony of mayors held in the presence of cabinet ministers sr.tript rajider singh bajwa & sr.sukhbinder singh sarkaria, who congratulated the office bearers.
After thw ceremony mayor sukhdeep sinhh teja said that he & his team is very much committed for the development of the city which will be done rapidly, wholeheartedly & unbiased. City batala would be one of the best in the region very soon.
