• Department of Local Government approves a fund of Rs.2 crore

Punjab Health and Family Welfare and Labour Minister and MLA from Mohali constituency, Balbir Singh Sidhu’s tireless efforts fructified when the Punjab government took a revolutionary decision to undertake development works in all the residential societies of Mohali at its own level. For this, the government has also sanctioned a fund of Rs 2.10 crore.
Giving details about this decision, Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that the funds have been sanctioned by the Local Government Department. He said that the Local Bodies Department has issued necessary instructions to the Municipal Corporation , Mohali in this regard and approved these development works under Section 82 (3) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.
He further said that after this decision now various development works would be carried out in the Darshan Vihar Society, United Cooperative Society, Pancham Society, SBI Colony, Housefed, Guru Tegh Bahadur Complex, SCL Society, Joginder Vihar, Jalvayu Vihar Society, Commando Complex, Police Colonies, Army Flats, Ivory Tower and Mayfair ,at a total cost of over Rs. 2 crore. The work estimates have been chalked out.
Thanking the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Local Bodies Minister Mr. Brahm Mahindra, Mr. Sidhu said that this fund would be utilised for internal works of the Societies like parks, internal roads, LED Street lights, paver blocks etc. He said that this was the first time ever that the government was going to carry out the internal development work of residential societies at its own level.
Describing the decision as far-reaching, the Health and Family Welfare Minister said that with this revolutionary decision there would be equal development of all areas under the Municipal Corporation and no area would be deprived of development works. He said that he had been raising this issue at the government level for a long time so that the city could be developed as a model city by providing equitable development.
