Jalandhar, February 5, 2021: Condemning the efforts of defaming Punjab because of protest against the center’s contentious farm laws, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar said that massive efforts are underway to segregate Punjab in the country and make it a disturbed state.
He alleged as the farmers’ protest witnessed a huge response in the country, attempts are being made to divide the country by side-lining Punjab. He appealed to the people of the state to get united against such mischievous elements.
Targeting the union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar over his statement today at Rajya Sabha, Jakhar accused that the Contract Farming 2013 Act was brought out by the Akali-BJP government. He said this was the first such law that had the provision of penalizing those farmers opting out of the contract and due to stiff protest, this law was not implemented.
He accused the union government of putting the food security of the nation at the stake just to please foreign companies. He appealed to the center’s NDA government to save democracy by respecting public sentiments on this issue.
Jakhar said this issue does not only belong to farmers but whole democracy because some anti-national elements are trying hard to divide the country.
He said that the prices of wheat would rise exponentially if the food security of the country is compromised.
On the occasion, MLAs Rajinder Beri, Sushil Kumar Rinku, Bawa Henry, Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja and others were present.
