Ferozepur, December 12, 2020: The police and excise department in a joint operation have claimed recovery of 30,000 liters of ‘lahan’ from near the banks of Sutlej near village Ali Ke Jhuge Nihanga Wala Ban at two different locations by two teams. The teams of the Police department and Excise officials work in close coordination to effectively nail excise related crimes.
Divulging with the details, Pawan Kumar and Parmjit Singh, SIs informed that when the police party on its routine checking against the unscrupulous and mischievous persons had reached near the Excise office, a tip-off was received four persons are in the profession of brewing illicit liquor and ‘lahan’ has been kept in the tarpaulins in the river Sutlej near Ali Ke village.
Working on the information, a joint raid was conducted and 30,000 liters ‘lahan was recovered along with the articles – 30 tarpaulins and four drums, which was taken into possession, he added.
As per the information, the ‘lahan’ (Kachhi daaru) recovered was destroyed there and then to avoid its misuse.
Two FIRs in this regard has also been lodged in Police Station Sadar, Ferozepur under Excise Act against 13 persons – in one case against 4 persons – Baggu, Gurnam Singh, Diwan Singh and Joginder Singh and in another case against 9 persons – Plamm, Ujagar, Umma, Angrez, Maninder, Gurnam Singh, Major, Vicky and Amrik of village Ali Ke. However, no arrest could be made as none was available at the place of recovery point.
However, the department has reaffirmed that the drive to curb banned liquor will be continued in the future, and strict action would be initiated against any person found to be indulging in illicit liquor trading, the spokesperson added.
